Assistant Room Parent Year Round
Every year the Family Association relies on a handful of parents to help promote a sense of community in the classrooms by taking responsibility for organizing and communicating classroom needs, plans, and projects to the rest of the classroom’s parents.
School Spirit Sales Coordinator Year Round
Help design, promote, and coordinate sales of SJMS items (including T-shirts, sweatshirts, mugs, car decals, and others).
Publishing Center Assistant Year Round • Daytime
Help children turn their stories into bound books at our in-house publishing center. Volunteers assist students to publish bound books of their original stories or poetry that they write in class. Publishing takes place during the school day, depending on classroom schedules.
Office Assistance Year Round • Daytime
General administrative help is needed for mailings and various other office duties throughout the year.
Care Committee Year Round
The Family Association’s Care Committee coordinates support for families at times of serious illness, injury, death, and other life challenging situations. Volunteers are needed for brief, one-time jobs as well as for more involved ongoing positions.
Carpool Coffee 1st Friday of Every Month • 8 – 10am
A few regular volunteers are needed for this monthly first Friday morning social gathering. Make coffee, buy donuts, set up, chat up, and clean up.
Fall & Spring Grounds Clean Up October 14 / April 27 • 3pm – Evening
Calling all gardeners! Help spruce up the school grounds for fall and spring.
Scholastic Book Fairs September 26-30 and March 12-16 • 8am – 6pm
Book Fair happens twice per year for a one-week period. Volunteers are needed in short shifts to set up, help children find books, staff the register, and tear down. You will be contacted about your availability.
Annual Fund Phone-a-thon One Evening in Fall • 6 – 8pm
Dedicated volunteers are needed by the school to spend a little time dialing and informing the rest of the SJMS community about the difference they can make to our school’s future by donating to the Annual Fund. It’s a fun evening with dinner and prizes, while helping the school. Babysitting is provided.
Winter Festival Sunday, December 4 • Noon – 6pm
Set aside this date in your calendar to attend the Family Association’s biggest event of the year! A parent from every family is needed to volunteer a couple of hours or more to help with this annual Family Association fundraiser festival. Help is also needed with organizing the event, as well as with setting up, staffing, and cleaning up the day of the event. If you have an activity preference from past years or would like to be on the organizing committee please note it here, otherwise you will be contacted closer to the date to let you know where you are needed most.
Interest Fair Judges Dinner Thursday, February 23 • 4-6pm & 6-8pm
The Family Association provides a dinner for all Interest Fair Judges. Help is needed with organizing, setting up, and cleaning up.
Spring Gala February / March 2011
Help to produce this fun and elegant annual event that serves as an important fundraiser for the school. If you enjoy planning parties, there is plenty to do!
Grandparents’ & Special Guests’ Day Friday, April 20 • 7:30am – Noon
Grandparents’ and Special Guests’ Day is a day of welcoming extended families into the school community. Volunteers are needed to help with setting up, directing guests, and cleaning up.
Techno Trek Friday Friday, May 4 • Noon – 2:30pm
As students run laps around the school to raise money for new technology equipment for classrooms, supportive parents are needed to help check off their laps and shout encouragement.
Children’s Day Carnival Friday, May 25 • 11AM – 2:30pm
This event is planned and produced by SJMS staff and teachers. Parents are needed by the school to help the children with activities and to staff carnival booths.
End of Year Bowling Party Last Day of School, June 1 • 2 – 4pm
Parents are needed to organize the event, as well as serve refreshments and take tickets at the Family Association’s last social event of the year.
Teacher/Staff Appreciation Luncheon Monday, June 4 • 10AM – 2pm
The Family Association hosts an annual luncheon for teachers and staff. Help organize, set up, serve, or clean up, and show your appreciation for all the hard work of the SJMS teachers and staff.
2012 Kick-Off Celebration Sunday in August 2012 • 2:00 – 5:00pm
Help to organize and/or staff the first social event of the year, the Kick-Off Celebration for the 2012 school year.
2012 New Parent Orientation First Day of School, August 2012 • 9 – 11AM
Interested and attentive parents are needed to welcome new members to our community and answer their questions as well as to help organize this important event.
